Bergen is an old city with a lot of history, but is still modern. The city life in Bergen is very good, and there is plenty of shopping possibilities. But first of all, Bergen is known for its historic sights. Take the Fløibanen and experience the fantastic view of the city from the top of one of the seven mountains sorrounding the city. Visit the Bergen Aquarium and look at tropical fish and cute penguins, or hike in the mountains for a great nature experience.
Among other attractions is Troldhaugen, the home of the composer Edward Grieg. Bergen is also the home of the Grieg concert hall. The Bergen fish market in the city centre is also worth a visit, and of course Bryggen (also known as "The German Wharf"), with it`s ancient wooden houses. Bryggen has been on the UNESCO list for World Cultural Heritage sites since 1979.
A big part of Bergen`s inhabitants are students. Because of this, the city offers a lot of great restaurants, cafés and clubs. We recommend all travellers a visit to "Det Lille Kaffecompagniet", a cute little café by the Fløibanen station.
