For every guest that stays at a Nordic Choice hotel, each year we donate funds to protect 100 m2 of rainforest. In 2009 Nordic Choice helped preserve an area equivalent to 70, 000 football pitches.
Thanks to 100% renewable energy, Yasuragi Spa at Hasseludden outside Stockholm has cut its oil consumption by 86%. And saved SEK 800,000 into the bargain.
In 2009 we helped improve sanitary conditions in several Nepalese schools. Nordic Choice staff kept training diaries, and then participants’ distances and times were converted to hard cash. The project was carried out in conjunction with UNICEF.
The environmental management system focuses on continuous improvements in the following areas:
Spontaneous aid for the victims of the Haiti earthquake in collaboration with UNICEF. We collected NOK 300,000 from our generous guests and then donated the same amount ourselves.
In 2010 Clarion Hotel Stockholm was voted WeCare hotel of the year.
Our annual employee survey revealed high levels of job satisfaction among all our staff. Our employee loyalty far outstrips that of our competitors.
Welcome recognition of our climate initiatives. In the face of competition from hotel companies from Thailand, Canada, Singapore, Greece, India and Austria, Nordic Choice carried off the International Ecotourism Urban Accommodation award. In its citation the jury emphasised our social commitment and targeted environmental focus.
